Louise (Daniels) Junghans - The Charm Shop

In the 1950's Louise (Daniels) Junghans, wife of Walter, daughter-in-law of Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans, worked at The Charm Shop in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.   Here is a photo of Louise which was included in an advertisement for the 100th anniversary of DeKalb, Illinois.    Louise is the second from the left in what appears to be a white blouse.

1940 US Census - Otto Carl Junghans

Here is the 1940 US Census for Otto Carl Junghans, son of wife Hulda (Hahmann) and Otto Heinrich Junghans and grandson of Christliebe (Kuehn) and Carl Heinrich Junghans.

The family can be found on lines 56 - 58. 

Otto Junghans Jr was living with wife Caroline and Otto's son with (Ella Heiden) Junghans, Gilbert.   Both Otto and his son Gilbert were farmers living in Mequon, Ozuakee county, Wisconsin. 

1940 US Census - Carl Junghans

Here is the 1940 US Census for Carl Junghans, the second son born to Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans.

Lines 1 and 2 list Carl and wife Selma (Frentzel) living in Koshkonong township, Jefferson county, Wisconsin.   Carl was employed as a machinist.

Richard Paul Junghans - obituary

The grandson of Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans and son of Rosina Victoria (Billings) and Paul Theodore Junghans, Richard Paul Junghans passed away April 17, 2018 in Shawnee county, Kansas.  

Richard was born September 11, 1925 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. 

Richard's mother passed away March 21, 1953 and his father married Sydna Wilson June 6, 1956 in Fort Atkinson.

Richard's first marriage took place in Madison, Wisconsin to Donna Byers on June 6, 1950.    His second marriage was to Eleanor Archer in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 7, 1955.   His third marriage was to Priscilla Loonsten in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 8, 1991.    Sometime following the death of Priscilla in Colorado, Paul married for a 4th time to Betty Gulick.

Walter Junghans - World War II

Walter Junghans, youngest son of Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans served during World War II.    Below is a copy of the passenger list as he traveled from Honolulu back to mainland United States.

Cushman K Davis passenger list

Walter sailed on the SS Cushman K Davis leaving Honolulu August 12, 1944 and arrived in Seattle, Washington on August 21, 1944.    Walter lived in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.    I do not know when Walter was discharged but believe it was in 1945.

Here is the 1930 US Census for William Junghans, the eldest son born to Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans.

William and wife Della (Phillips) and their children Kenneth, Harlow, William Jr and eventual adopted daughter,  Olive Phillips (lines 26 - 31) were living in Homer township, Winona county, Minnesota.   Clarence, Olive's father, was Della's brother.

William was employed as a dairy farmer.

Albert was the 8th child born to Julia (Kolb) and Emil Heinrich Yunghans and the grandson of Christliebe (Kuehn) and Carl Heinrich Junghans.

I stumbled upon a comment left by Peggy Bailey (thank you Peggy) that confirmed a photo of Emil Yunghans.

Now that I have a photo of all the Junghans brothers that left Germany in the 1800's and came to America as either a Junghans or Yunghans, here they are:

Emil Yunghans

Emil Yunghans, the eldest son of Christliebe Kuehn and Carl Heinrich Junghans.

Otto Heinrich Junghans, Paul Richard Junghans & Carl F Yunghans

Otto Heinrich was the third child, Paul Richard was the fourth (and last) child and Carl Frederick was the second child born to Christliebe Kuehn and Carl Heinrich Junghans.

The two eldest brothers, Emil Heinrich and Carl Frederick changed their last name to Yunghans from Junghans sometime after they left Germany for America.    The two younger brothers, Otto Heinrich and Paul Richard opted to keep the "J".

Unfortunately I have yet to find a photo of the Yunghans/Junghans brothers together or of their parents.

Carl Junghans - World War II draft registration

Here is the World War II draft registration for Carl Junghans, the second son of Paul Richard and Wilhelminia (Schmidt) Junghans and husband of Selma (Frentzel).

Carl and Selma were living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin at the time he registered for the draft in 1942.

1920 US Census - Julius Yunghans

While searching for the 1940 US Census, I was able to track down a few previous census records I had been missing.     Below is the 1920 US Census for Julius Yunghans.

Julius (line 92, second family from the the bottom) was living with wife Minnie (Kirsch) and their two children, Marie and Arthur in the city of Vincennes, Knox county, Indiana.

Julius was employed as a cigar maker, most likely working for his father, Emil Yunghans at the Yunghans Cigar factory.    The occupation of daughter Marie is listed as "sales woman" at a five and dime store.

Julius was the eldest son of Julia (Kolb) and Emil Heinrich Junghans/Yunghans and the grandson of Christliebe (Kuehn) and Carl Heinrich Junghans.

1930 US Census - Walter Junghans

Here is the 1930 US Census for my grandfather, Walter Junghans.

It appears Walter was living alone, even though it indicates "boarder".   He was employed as an order clerk for a poultry and barn equipment company in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson county, Wisconsin.

I had trouble tracking down this census as it was indexed as "Walter Junghaus" rather than the correct spelling of Junghans.

1910 US Census - Ernst Yunghans

Here is the 1910 US Census for Ernst Yunghans, the nephew of my great grandfather, Paul Richard Junghans.

Ernst was the 4th child born to Julia (Kolb) and Emil Heinrich Yunghans (Yunghans).        Otto Junghans, Emil's brother was living only a few miles away.

Ernest was a boarder living at the home of H.F.R. Thieman and was employed as a teacher.

1940 US Census - Paul Junghans

Below is the 1940 US Census for my great grandfather, Paul Junghans (line 42).

Paul was living at the home of his son, Paul Junghans Jr along with his daughter-in-law, Rosina (Billings) and their son Richard (line 41 above) in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson county, Wisconsin.

Paul Junghans Jr and Rosina are listed below (lines 39 & 40).     It is difficult to make out, but appears Paul Jr was working as a sales engineer for Barn Equipment.      Paul Sr had retired by 1940.

Yunghans cigars

Last year I posted about the cigar company owned by Emil Yunghans, the eldest brother of my great grandfather, Paul Richard Junghans.

Here are some photos of the cigar boxes, provided by Daniel Yunghans, the great great grandson of Emil.

Norman Yunghans, the grandson of Emil later used the box to store nuts and bolts.

Carl Yunghans immigration

I may have found the passenger list for Christliebe (Kuehn) and Carl Heinrich Junghans'  second son, Carl Yunghans traveling from Bremen, Germany to New York City on the ship, Elbe.

There is a Carl Junghanz listed (2nd from the bottom) though Carl would have been 24 (not 26) at the time the ship arrived in New York on April 14, 1883.

While it's difficult to make out, the 1910 US Census indicates Carl immigrated in either 1882 or 1883.
