1940 US Census - Paul Junghans

Below is the 1940 US Census for my great grandfather, Paul Junghans (line 42).

Paul was living at the home of his son, Paul Junghans Jr along with his daughter-in-law, Rosina (Billings) and their son Richard (line 41 above) in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson county, Wisconsin.

Paul Junghans Jr and Rosina are listed below (lines 39 & 40).     It is difficult to make out, but appears Paul Jr was working as a sales engineer for Barn Equipment.      Paul Sr had retired by 1940.

Here is the passport application for Rosina Victoria Billings who married the 4th son of Wilhelmina (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans, Paul Junghans Jr on February 12, 1919 in Winchester, England.

Junghans family mentioned in the Fort Atkinson newspaper

Here is a newspaper article of October 1, 1937 from  Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin mentioning Wilhelmina (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans' grandson, Richard who was attending the Curtis Mills School.

Further down on the page is a short comment about Paul Junghans Jr, wife Rosina, and another mention of Richard.

Walter and Paul Junghans Jr.

Earlier, I had posted this photo of my grandfather, Walter Junghans and his older brother, Paul Junghans Jr taken around 1910, but my mother just sent me the original which is a better copy.

Paul Junghans Jr - obituary

The 4th born son of Wilhelmina (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans was the second of their 5 children to pass away.   (Emil Junghans died as an infant in 1890).

Paul's obituary appears below.

Paul was born August 9, 1895 in Milwaukee Wisconsin and died April 17, 1962 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Paul is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, which I posted about earlier.

Evergreen Cemetery - Junghans family members

My great grandparents, Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans are buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.    Also buried at the same plot are my grandparents, Louise (Daniels) and Walter Junghans and my great aunt and uncle, Rosina "Vic" (Billing) and Paul Junghans Jr.

Wilhelmina (Schmidt) was born September 16, 1868 in Loetz, Germany and died May 20, 1924 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Paul Richard Junghans was born December 20, 1862 in Saxony, Germany and died November 13, 1944 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Louise (Daniels) was born April 19, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois and died December 26, 1991 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Walter Junghans was born January 24, 1909 in Pine Valley, Wisconsin and died June 16, 1996 in DeKalb, Illinois.

Rosina Victoria Billings was born July 4, 1897 in Ireland and died March 21, 1953 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Paul Junghans Jr was born August 9, 1895 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died April 17, 1962 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

William Junghans and family - 1929

Here is a photo taken in 1929 of the family of Wilhelminia (Schmidt) and Paul Richard Junghans' eldest son, William.

From left to right, Kenneth, William, wife Della, Marion (being held by Della) and Harlow.

I'm not sure who is hidden between Marion and Harlow (wearing the hat) but it may be my great grandfather, Paul Richard Junghans.

On the far left you can see someone's left arm and leg which is probably William and Della's youngest son, William Jr.

Paul Junghans Jr - warranty deed

Here is a deed for property owned by Paul Richard and Wilhelminia Junghans' son, Paul Jr.

This plot of land in Sawyer County, Wisconsin was purchased by Paul Jr in July 1927.    I'm not sure why the property was transferred to Paul Jr, possibly a place to vacation or an investment. 

Sawyer County is located approximately 5 hours north of where Paul Jr was living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.   

This particular property is also located about an hour east of where my grandparents, Louise (Daniels) and Walter Junghans would eventually buy a house on Long Lake, Wisconsin in the 1960's.

1930 US Census - Paul Richard Junghans

Here is the 1930 US Census for my great grandfather, Paul Richard Junghans.    Paul was living at the home of his son, Paul Jr and wife Rosina and their son Richard in Jefferson County near Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Also living in the household was Paul Richard Junghans' sister-in-law, Mary Schmidt.

Like so many census records with errors, this one indicates Paul Richard Junghans immigrated to the United States in 1868.    As I pointed out in earlier posts, he immigrated sometime in 1886.

Paul Junghans Jr - marriage

Paul and Wilhelminia Junghans' 4th son, Paul Jr married Rosina Victoria Billing on February 12, 1918.

I do not have a copy of the wedding certificate or a photo of the couple, but here is a photo of Rosina I am guessing was taken close to that time.

Here is another photo of "Aunt Vic" taken several years later, I am guessing was taken in the early 1950's.

Paul Junghans Jr - World War I

Paul Junghans Jr - World War I draft registration

Here is the World War I draft registration for Paul Junghans Jr, the 4th born child of Paul Richard and Wilhelminia Junghans.

Paul Jr. was employed as a draftsman for Hunt, Helm and Ferris Company* in Harvard, Illinois when he completed his registration on June 5, 1917.   Paul was living in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, which is about an hour north of Harvard.

*Using an internet search, you can find antique products available today that were manufacturered at Hunt, Helm and Ferris Company.

1920 US Census - Paul Richard Junghans

Here is the 1920 US Census for the youngest of the Junghans' brothers, Paul Richard (my great grandfather).    This is the first census for the family since moving from Neillsville to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Paul was living with wife Minnie, 5th (and last) born son Walter (my grandfather) and 4th born son Paul Jr and his first wife, Rosina on Roberts Street.

Paul Sr was working at a lumberyard and Paul Jr was employed as a mechanical draftsman.

Paul Junghans - 1912?

Here is a photo of Paul and Wilhelminia Junghans' third eldest son, Paul. Much like the photo posted yesterday of his brother Carl, it appears to be a senior high school photo.


Based upon Paul's birth of August 9, 1895, I would guess it was taken in 1912 when he was about 17 years old.
