He was the exclusive photographer to the Pabst family (as in beer) and inherited much of his elite clientele from the previous owner of the studio Hugo von Broich. Your photo caught my eye as I've done a large amount of research on Milwaukee and Stein and am always on the lookout for new images. Your photo was taken on the third floor of a building that is still standing and was Steins first studio before he made an even bigger name for himself and moved his studio a half a block west of the Pfister Hotel (really ritzy place).
